What is a Barista

Base on Google, Barista is a person whose job involves preparing and serving different types of coffee.

The word barista come from Italy. It come from the word "bartender". Thus, why most of the people assume bartender are the same as barista. A lot of "barista" claims themselves a true barista just because they have the skill to make coffee. However, it takes more for barista to learn or do other than making a cup of coffee.

Other than making coffee, what else should a barista do?

  1. Recognize Faces
    As barista always work in a cafe, they should able to recognize the faces of every customers. Customer would be happy if you are able to recognize them and what their favorite drink are.

  2. Familiar with all the drinks
    Barista should also familiar with all the drinks. Therefore, they are able to introduce which drink are suitable for the customer. For example, do not introduce a drink with high caffeine when your customer are having insomnia. Instead, suggest a hot warm milk or other drink which help them with their sleep.

  3. Taking Orders
    Taking order would seem simple for most of you but are you doing it correctly?
    Customer would come to the bar and yet dunno what to order. Great them and ask for their need. Introduce a drink which suit their flavor or thier mood.

  4. Cleaning
    Let take cleaning to another level. This help barista to familiar to where the equipment are located. Barista are able to respond faster whenever a customer require for need.

  5. Improve your skill for coffee
    Learn how to control flavor and taste of the coffee. A skill barista are able to come out different flavor of espresso just by using the same coffee bean. Understand of how the taste will vary throughout the process.

  6. Reading and Upgrading yourself
    Always eager to learn more and share your knowledge. Consistently upgrade yourself by reading more book and also newspaper.

  7. Skill for Conversation.
    Lastly, improve your conversation skill will be a big help to the cafe. Talk to the customer, especially those who seat in front of the bar. This is where all the knowledge gain by reading book and newspaper come in handy. Talk to them and as well be a good listener.
